MILDURA East paceman Jason Finch believes even contributions from the bowlers have been key to success for his top-placed side.
Finals-bound: Jason Finch is among the wickets for Mildura East.
Finch was instrumental in setting up East’s vital first-innings victory over Workers Gol Gol at Alcheringa in round 13 with tight, effective bowling.
With top spot up for grabs for the winner, East dismissed their opposition for 117 on the first day, then chased down the runs before stumps.
Finch took 4/24 with seven maidens from his 16 overs, his wickets coming in succession through the middle order toreduce Workers to 6/60.
The East spearhead had good support from fellow opening bowler Jhy Berry (3/38), while skipper Tom Vadlja took two wickets.
“With the bowling attack we’ve got now, we don’t rely on one person to get four or five (wickets) each week,” Finch said.
Finch admitted that after the hosts batted first, there was “a bit of pressure” on the bowlers early. “We didn’t start too well, Petrie got stuck into us over the first four or five overs so it looked like it could have been a long day,” Finch said.
