The week will be marked with activities running from Monday, March 16 through to Saturday, March 21.

With so many events on offer, there is something new for everyone to try – with events covering sport, art, technology, entertainment, health, wellbeing, family history and much more.

ORGANISING SENIORS WEEK: Narelle Butler from Tenterfield HACC, Christine Sommerlad, Ken Poulsen, Clare Pieper and Sarah Watson from Tenterfield Shire Council.

It all gets underway with a travel expo and lunch at the Tenterfield Golf Club on the Monday, with a guest speaker for the event.

Successive Grandparents Day’s will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and the week will culminate in a cinema event and lunch in Stanthorpe.

The Young at Heart film festival is coming to Tenterfield too and will be held at the cinema on Friday, March 20 from 2pm.

Every year, “Young at Heart”, Australia’s Seniors Film Festival, recognises the best short films starring actors aged 55 and over.

There will be free entry for all seniors to the cinema for the ‘It’s Your Call’ Short Film Awards as part of the weeks celebrations.

The awards are an hour-long program with seven films vying for top honours in the competition.

“Council is pleased to play part in the week-long Seniors Week celebrations and I encourage seniors from right across our shire to come along and see these fabulous short films,” Tenterfield mayor Peter Petty said.

Key organiser for the six day programme, Christine Sommerlad, said it was important people register their interest for the various activities ahead of time.

“I think it’s important for our seniors to get out and about, out of the house socialising,” Christine said.

She also acknowledged the importance of younger involvement and “covering the generations”.

Ms Sommerlad can be contacted on 6736 1788 for further information.
